High Cholesterol Diet Healthy Dieting for Lower Cholesterol
People around the world are faced with more health concerns than ever before. The list goes from cancer to heart disease to STD and more. Among the pressing health issues now are high cholesterol and what we eat. Too many people lead a sedentary lifestyle and are overweight. If we are to survive, it is time to get informed and make some changes. Among those changes is managing your cholesterol by eating a high cholesterol diet.
High cholesterol levels may reflect a diet high in cholesterol and saturated fats. Dietary cholesterol comes from meats and animal products. Even the leanest meat has some, as do egg yolk, milk and other dairy products such as cheese and butter. When you eat these foods, their cholesterol is added to your own. Plant foods do not contain cholesterol.
Fatty meats, full fat dairy products and tropical oils (palm and coconut oil) also contain large amounts of saturated fats. Hydrogenated oils, such as those found in solid margarine and shortenings, are originally unsaturated fats which have been partly converted chemically to saturated fats. Saturated fats reduce your liver's ability to remove cholesterol from the blood. So, it is as important to lower your intake of saturated fats as it is to lower your intake of cholesterol.
